Happy Holidays

Dear NCHS Family, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you! I hope that you find comfort and happiness this holiday season in the simple joys of friends and family.   I look forward to 2017 with great optimism for NCHS, and am grateful for our parents and community that cares about our school. I am proud of our teachers and staff that continue to work hard to help your children grow.   We have the most amazing students that are talented and kind. They are truly wonderful people and it is a gift for all of us to be a part of their daily lives. Thank you for all that you do to make NCHS a wonderful school.  I hope that you and your loved ones have a happy and fulfilling holiday season and I wish you all personal and professional happiness in 2017! Dear NCHS Family, On Thursday, December 22 from 2:30-3:00 pm, New Canaan High School will host a  memorial service to dedicate a bench in honor of Kelly Devine, an English teacher and reading specialist at NCHS who passed away in April, 2016.  The bench, which is located at the front of the school by the newly planted gardens, is a generous gift from the PFA.  A short dedication ceremony will take place outside by the memorial bench to be followed by refreshments in the school lobby.  Students, parents, and alumni are all welcome.   Vaping In the last several weeks we have seen a rise in the number of incidents of students “vaping” in school.  We are always concerned for the well being of our students and want them to make good choices.  It is important to know that any student caught vaping will be suspended from school for a period of 5 school days.  Please see the message below from our school nurses and have a conversation with your child about vaping and its dangers.

When we have become aware of a student attempting to leave campus in an Uber, we have intervened and will continue to do so, but unlike taxis, most Uber cars are indistinguishable from other

Dear NCHS Family, Dr. Marc Brackett I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving sharing good food with family and friends. Dr. Marc Brackett from the Yale University Emotional Intelligence Center spoke to staff and families this week on the important role that emotions play in the education of our children. Dr. Brackett was a wonderful speaker and the audience learned about the science of emotions, the skills of emotional intelligence, practical strategies, and tools to develop emotional intelligence.  A big thank you to the PTC’s and our PFA for bringing in Dr. Brackett.  We are so fortunate to be a part of a community that values education. Scholarship Foundation The New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation is celebrating its 50th Anniversary! NCSF represents a broad-based community effort to provide financial aid to deserving NCHS graduates pursuing higher education at the undergraduate level. We are announcing new and exciting changes to the Foundation
