Department News:

Social Studies:

Many social studies students are sitting for their Advanced Placement exams this week and next. Today students are sitting for the AP US History exam. Earlier in the week, they had their AP US Government and AP Psychology Exams. Next week will be AP European History, AP World History, AP Comparative Government and AP Micro and Macro Economics. In class this week they’ve been working through extensive reviews of their work this year. The department wishes everyone sitting for AP exams the best in showing off all they’ve learned!

In Global History II, students shared skits revolving around the Russian Revolution and the civil war that followed. With the warm weather, we were able to perform some of the skits outside.

Last week, the Current Events Club, advised by Marianne Cohen, hosted a visit and discussion with Congressman Jim Himes.

Math:

Students in M2 PreCalc used Desmos on their laptops to graph circles, ellipses and hyperbolas and determined critical information about each curve. Then they looked for patterns in the equations in order to write their own examples.

Students in M4 Honors Precalculus used Desmos to investigate the graphs of polar conics. They discovered the relationship between the equations of conics in polar form and the type of conic and its orientation. Then, they learned how to graph conics in polar form precisely and check their results using Desmos.

Students in AP Calculus AB have being completing practice exams in preparation for the AP exam. Good luck on Tuesday!!

VPA:

The Advanced Filmmaking class is in production mode! Advanced Film 1 in the final edit stage of their collaborative film, “Flawless”. This story is adapted from an idea written by students in Mrs. Steidl creative writing class. This is their first time editing in Adobe Premiere!

Advanced Film 2 are working on independent projects. Charlie Hane and Jack Dunn, hosts of this year’s New Age Film Festival, are preparing the video opening and script! Students, Nicholas LaMorte and Sydney Britt are working hard on their documentary and animation projects using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop.

Filmmaking II are in the pre-production phase of their final “Filminute” project. They are restricted to create a unique story in their own style with a time constraint of exactly one minute!

Scripts are being written and storyboards are being drawn, working collaboratively to develop their ideas with each other.

World Languages:

Students are challenged, in Spanish 2, to not only learn their vocabulary for identify it as a noun, verb or adjective, translate it, define it in Spanish, locate a visual to represent the word and then use the word in a sentence.

Thankfully, this task is easier when we work together!

Good Luck to all students who took the AP Spanish and AP Chinese tests this week!

We are all pulling for you as well as our AP French and AP Latin kids next week!
