We hope everyone did wonderful on their first two days of exams. While it is important to do their personal best, we want students to realize that this is only one indicator of success. We also hope that students chose to participate in the variety of activities during our Wellness and Enrichment break in between exams.

Department News:

School Counseling:

Counselors met with junior parents last week to lay out the expectations and timeline for post high school life for our students. The evening was well attended with everyone looking forward to the research phase of visiting schools and looking for the right place for their child. Counselors have also been meeting with students as they prepare for exam week. We have been helping students to organize their study time and look for ways to be as prepared as possible.

Social Studies:

Leading up to exams, all classes in the Social Studies Department have been busy preparing and reviewing as they close out the semester. Recently, though, the AP European History students managed to take in some art in the City.

AP European History students enriched their study of history by going on a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They visited the Special Exhibits on Michelangelo, on Rodin, and featuring Leonardo da Vinci. Then they examined European paintings on the second floor, and were able to see a number of paintings they had studied in the course. Each student selected three paintings and described how the art reflected the history of the era it represented.

Math:

Students in all classes have been working diligently to prepare for the midterms. Students have been given solutions in order to make sure they that not only have the correct answer but can find their error and explain their misconception. They have been asked how they can prevent those errors in the future and other strategies to help them be as successful as possible on the midterm. We wish them all the best of luck!

The Math Team had its 4th match in early January. After 4 matches, the team currently sits in 9th place out of 26 schools and has steadily been moving up in the rankings. Great job!!

The American Mathematics Competition will take place on Wednesday, February 7 and NCHS will once again participate. If your child would like to participate and is not currently in an honors level math course, please see Mr. Bloss as soon as possible as space is limited.
