Department Updates:

Social Studies Department News:

Teachers and students have been busy in Social Studies taking and reviewing exams and gearing up for the new semester. Many new sections of Junior/Senior semester electives are excited to start up in Psychology, Civics, Economics and Law.

As the new semester begins, AP European History students have many opportunities to broaden their academic studies by engaging in various extra credit options to enhance their learning.  The five students who are part of the Model UN delegation to the conference in the Netherlands can return with information they learn as they visit museums.  Other students can visit the new exhibit on Impressionism at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, and/or attend the lecture at the Ferguson library by an expert on Brexit; and/or watch the film on Les Miserables and summarize the ways in which it reflects the themes we are studying.  It is always an option to visit other museums and make similar connections.

A delegation from the Model United Nations Club is headed to the Hague to participate in THIMUN at the World Forum Convention Center this weekend, and two more delegations head to conferences at Boston University and Georgetown over the next few weeks. Our best goes out to all three delegations. Have great travels and a great experience!

Science Department News:  The NCHS Science Department is excited to get the second semester start.  While most students just completed midterms, some of our students completed their final exams in their semester long electives class and now will be starting new courses in Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Marine Science and Astronomy this week.

During the exam week, Mr. Haag, our Astronomy teacher welcome some budding astronomers to the planetarium between exams.  Students from Toddlertime Preschool ventured to the high school during the exam week to visit the planetarium and teach Mr. Haag a thing about celestial bodies and the protective equipment that is necessary to survive outside of Earth’s Atmosphere.  As the pictures show,  a great time was had by all.

Math Department News:
M3 Geometry classes did an index card activity to discover the altitude on hypotenuse theorems.  M2 Algebra 2 classes completed a radian investigation using paper plates and pipe cleaners.  See the pictures below!!
